Amorim luxury launches probe into hotel fire

The JNcQUOI House, Amorim Luxury first hotel, was due to open in the summer, but is unlikely to open any time soon after it was partially destroyed by a fire on Friday 7 June.

The group has already gone public and said that it will open an investigation into the causes of the incident, which jeopardised the opening date.

‘JNcQUOI confirms that a fire broke out this morning in the JNcQUOI House building on Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon,’ an official source from the group confirmed to ‘Jornal de Negócios’. Amorim Luxury, led by Paula Amorim, also said that the fire broke out in an area where carpentry work was being carried out by the Huite construction company, and ‘there were no injuries or personal damage’.

The group also added that ‘it will be opening an investigation into the causes of this incident’, the same source continued. By late afternoon, the group had already asked the construction company for complete and detailed information about the causes of the fire. It is not yet known, however, whether the damage will make it impossible for the hotel to open on the scheduled date.

The fire involved the mobilisation of 17 firefighters supported by six vehicles. The causes are not yet known. A PSP source shared that the flames originated on the third floor and spread to the other floors.

Located at 189 Avenida da Liberdade, JNcQUOI House was announced in 2021 and the first forecasts indicated that the development would open in the first quarter of 2023.

However, the opening was postponed. With an investment of 10 million euros, this boutique hotel will have 21 rooms and was formerly known as the Veneza Inn Lisbon.
