The fire that broke out at 4.30pm on Tuesday in the municipality of Arouca, in the district of Aveiro, and which forced the evacuation of the Paiva walkways, was brought under control at around 8pm, a Civil Protection source said.
Speaking to Lusa, a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command for the Porto Metropolitan Area said that the fire, which was fought by dozens of operatives with the support of eight aerial resources, entered the resolution phase at 20:05, which means that it is ‘an occurrence with no danger of spreading’.
The alert for the forest fire in the Espiunca area, in Arouca, was given at around 16:30.
According to the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command for the Porto Metropolitan Area, ‘at 6.35pm the fire had two active fronts’ and was "close to the Vau river beach’, a situation that ‘forced the evacuation of the walkways’.
At 8.45pm, according to the same source, 97 operatives from various fire brigades in the districts of Aveiro, Porto and Viseu were still on the scene, aided by 31 vehicles and two aerial resources.
‘No injuries have been reported,’ he said.
