The Portuguese authorities have alerted users for rising number of reported fraudulent WhatsApp messages.
The scam begins with unsolicited messages via WhatsApp. These messages are designed to look like legitimate invitations to recruit workers, promising recipients payments in exchange for interacting with certain Tik Tok accounts - by liking, commenting, and following them.
The promises of compension can amount to several hundred euros a day. However, the authorities warn that the scheme is fraudulent and is an attempt to obtain the victims' banking information.
The authorities strongly reccomend that users ignore such solicitations, and also leave any groups to which they may have been added as part of this scam.
Victims should also complain to the authorities and remain sceptical when offers seem too good to be true, especially if they come from unknown contacts.
