Itamar Vieira Junior shortlisted for the International Booker Prize



The Brazilian writer Itamar Vieira Junior is among the finalists for this year's edition of the International Booker Prize, with the English translation of "Torto Arado" (Crooked Plow), by Johnny Lorenz.


Itamar Vieira Júnior's debut novel "Torto Arado," won the 2018 Leya Prize, was published in 2019 and won the Oceanos Prize in 2020.


The finalists in this edition of the prize, which honours a literary work translated into English and published in the UK or Ireland, are also Argentinian Selva Almada, with Not a River, Korean Hwang Sok-yong, with Mater 2-10, Dutch Jente Posthuma, with What I'd Rather Not Think About, German Jenny Erpenbeck, with Kairos, and Swedish Ia Genberg, with The Details.


The selection was made by a jury chaired by presenter Eleanor Wachtel and made up of editor and translator Aaron Robertson, writer Romesh Gunesekera, artist William Kentridge and poet Natalie Diaz.


The winner will be announced at ceremony May 21 in London.
